Judge Peter Smith’s 33 years of judicial experience make him well qualified to write a novel that is relevant to laypersons as well as lawyers who aspire to be judges. Most of the cases in his novel, The Magistrates, are based on real cases that Smith heard.
Smith’s diverse judicial experience includes:
* Presiding over the first nationally televised civil jury trial—the libel case of Carol Burnett against The National Enquirer
* Serving as a Special Master in a judicial disciplinary case
* Presiding in a death penalty case without a jury (Smith was chosen by the defense and the prosecution to hear the case)
* Hearing nearly 100 medical malpractice arbitrations
Smith was born in New York City in 1933. He graduated in 1951 from Midland School in Los Olivos, California, and in 1955 from UC Berkeley. He served as an Army Medic from.
1955 to 1957, then graduated from Loyola University Law School, Low Angeles, in 1960. After Smith practiced law from 1961 to 1967, Governor Ronald Reagan appointed him to the Alhambra (CA) Municipal Court in 1967. In 1972, Smith was elevated to the Los Angeles Superior Court. Smith retired from that court in 1988, and then served as a private arbitrator and mediator for the next 13 years.

This author is the first woman known to have driven and sold small tools from behind the wheel of a Cam truck, stocked full of every tool a man could dream for. Her experiences and adventures of small-town USA during this time of venturing to shade-tree mechanics and characters, many which were hidden from normal civilization, was a time of laughter, mixed with golden boy looks or crazy eyes and missing fingers among personalities ranging from comical to downright scary.
Using honesty, as well as moxie, to make it in the worlds of farms, junkyards and mechanic shops, Ingrid did her best to roll with the punches and the blessings. From the start of her struggling business to the end of a flourishing one, Ingrid’s stories will enlighten and entertain those who live in the worlds she visited and those who never knew they existed.
Ingrid now lives beside the North Sea Road on the ruggedly beautiful, weather-beaten coast of Southern
Norway. Under the heather Highlands of Jæren, a small acreage surrounded by stone fences and a salmon river is home to Ingrid. Along with her husband and two daughters, they enjoy life and the nature around them with four horses, a dog and a cat.x
